Default Manufacture of 2008 Sport Vs. Laramie

I searched for this on the forum and internet, but couldn't find an answer. A guy who that I work with has owned 4 or 5 dodges since the early '90s told me that the Sport is manufactured in a different place or manner than the Laramie. He also told me that for some reason they are basically two different trucks to some extent and that Sport repairs and parts cost more. I don't know how accurate this is, but I am looking at getting a Ram in the near future and wanted to double check this. I will end up getting leather and heated seats either way with the bucket seats and full console, but I could not tell a huge difference other than the obvious paint and seat appearance differences. I would be happy with either but I want to make sure I know what I'm getting into and any big differences as well as diffences in repair costs etc. I did notice that KBB does not have the Sport in the ram 1500 line up anywhere in 2008 so I didn't know if this was a sign he was right that they are two different trucks, but it seems crazy to me that they could be that different.

Thanks for the help!

They may use some slightly different exterior parts (Sports were usually uniform in color all the way throughout the exterior, one color) where as Laramie's were usually two toned, the second tone being chrome.

However, they were definitely not built at different places based on Sport vs Laramie.

Your friend has an agenda or is just misinformed. Same truck, different appearance packages. Simple as that. I cant speak to cost of repairing one vs the other as the only parts i have had to replace due to failure were the egr valve and a washer fluid pump. I have, however, searched for parts and accessories on various websites and they almost never make a distiction between sport vs. anything else. It is typically year, 2wd or 4wd, engine size, and type of cab.

Not to mention, cost of parts all depends on where or who you are buying them from.

The guy's an idiot. The trucks are the EXACT same, save for some interior parts and exterior differences.

Everything mechanical is the same, therefore, costs of maintenance or repair will be the same.

Jo,

The Sport is a different trim (option) package than the Laramie. There was not a Sport package in 2008 as they had ST,SXT,SLT, and Laramie packages back then on the 1500's. Ram comes up with many different trim packages all the time, some times in mid-year. This can be confirmed by the many models we have now which include ST, Tradesman, Express, Sport, Outdoorsman, etc... Not really sure where your friend is coming from when they talk about higher repair costs though. If they are saying it costs more to replace an electric seat vs. manual I am sure that is true but I figure that is understood.
