Default Changing out the gear oils.

So, my truck has around 120k miles now. I couldn't tell you if the gear oils were replaced in the past. I've put 15,000 on it since I've got it. I've always been ontop maintenance for oil and such, but recently I just thought of about the front/rear diff oil. I looked in the owners manual about it what it takes, ect ect. But it's shows about 3 types for the front, and 4 types for the back, so.. to me. This is looking like rocket science. It doesn't tell me how many quarts it takes. I was watching a video on a guy replacing the front and back on a 2003 4.7 dodge dakoda, so I don't know if that goes the same for a ram. I would just like if somebody could give me some information on what to use, how many quarts, and anything else you can give. Or, point me in the right direction of where to look? I did try to search, but I never have the best of luck.

Thank you

You will need about 3 qts, fill it to the bottom of the plug hole. As for what oil, im on the cell and can't see what truck you have. I put 75w90 in mine I believe.

Your parts store should actually be able to look up the weight that you need for oils, and your owners manual should tell you. The front is usually a little lighter. Also, if you have a limited slip rear diff you'll need a friction modifier additive to go along with your lube. They usually come in a little 4 oz bottle or so. You'll probably need two bottles of oil for both and you just fill until it starts to run out the fill plug and then put your plug back in.

I put a thread together for all the Fluid Specifications and Maintenance Schedules for our trucks and is located in the FAQ Section. You can find everything there.

Thanks for that, kind of helped. But it still didn't really tell me the quarts needed for the rear. 30 bucks a quart is insane! I also seen that it said front (4x4) I don't have a 4x4.
What are all these?
9 1/4 AA
9 1/4 EE EL

Rear
9 1/4 This is the only one that calls for 75W-140
10 1/2 AA]
10 1/2 AA EL] All these call for 75W-90
11 1/2 AA]
248RBI]

Ah, kind of what I guessed. I looked and I have
Lock up Torq converter
3.55 Axle Ratio
Corporete 9.25 LD Rear A
9.25 referring to 9 1/4 I am guessing?

How do I check for limited slip?

I brought my VIN to the dodge dealer and they were able to print off a list of my trucks options. There's a lot of helpful information if you don't have the original window sticker.

Look at the build sheet thread near the top, 2nd post gives a link to request build sheet. If you see anti spin differential you have limited slip.
