Just an easy thing to check. I suspect that the lack of valve cover ground was interfering with the operation of the coils since they probably need to be grounded. My misfire and codes were primarily at idle ... somehow at higher RPM the coils found a good ground.

(Fyi I also replaced my EGR preventatively while I had everything apart, so that could have been the fix, but I can't imagine how)

I am having the same exact problem on my '05 1500 Sporty with the 0300 code.I'm not sure how to get to these ground straps (or even if I have any) as I am kinda new to all this too, obviously.I looked at the valve covers but didn't see any braided wires but I may have missed them since I don't know exactly what I'm looking for.How do you get to them.Do I need too remove the airbox/intake or what.I appreciate the help.

Dont start with trying to find these straps, start simple. Plugs, Tune up. Do you have any codes

Unfortunately it's a P0300 code.I know I don't need plugs or wires.I replaced them both a month ago with OEM 's and gapped the plugs at .045,cleaned out my TB and I don't burn oil or coolant. The levels are fine and both are clean.I don't have any vaccum leaks.I sprayed cleaner around my intake manifold and hoses but got no change in the idle.I know that O2 sensors USUALLY will throw a code but it didn't/hasn't.I'm feeling like it may just be a lazy upstream sensor. It will idle fine with no surges or drops in RPM's.What it usually does (and it's very seldom) is it will misfire when I'm driving but when I mash the gas,it will quit and the CEL will quit blinking. It then goes right back to running normal.I don't let my gas get under half a tank.I have put dry gas in,injector cleaner in and only burn the high grade gas.Not Walmart gas either, usually Texaco or Exxon and from places that get a high volume of customers so I'm pretty sure it ain't sittin in their tank since forever.

What you could do is buy a NTK,NGK o2 sensor see if it stops the problem. If not return it. But o2s are know to cause random misfire without their specfic code coming on. Rockauto.com has cheaper parts.

Yep.....thats my plan.I'll start with the 2 upstream since they are the ones that send the signal for the mix ratios.I read somewhere that a fella had this same prob and he changed out his B2S1 and it cleared it up but I'm gonna change them both out.

What is a B2s1?
That would be a good start with upstream o2s
