Default 2004 5.7 w/ 180k miles

I have a 2004 short bed/stdrd cab /5.7 / 4wd

truck has been very good to me. have not done much to it. CA intake, magnaflow dual and Bully dog tuner

other then consumables i have replaced the diff once (GF's fault) don't ask lol

pulley tensioner, timing chain...

So with north of 180,000 miles on it if i keep it are you guys rebuilding your motor? buying replacement long blocks? short blocks and transferring items over?

Will any of the newer Hemi motors go in easily with the Correct pcm of course. giving me a lil more hp and gas mileage??

thanks for any input guys.

People are rebuilding, most only when they have to though. 6.1 Parts like Valve Springs, Push Rods, and even The Cam are interchangeable. not real sure what answer your looking for

I'm thinking the average Hemi will do over 280k before a rebuild.

wow had no idea guys were getting 280k. good to know! time to do timing belt again... wipe switch is going bad. flapper door went bad... but instead of fixing i just pulled flapper door off the fan so i have vents and defrost.

so most guys are rebuilding, i guess i would like to know what to do to get it to 375hp or more. it is 345 stock i believe.

"6.1 Parts like Valve Springs, Push Rods, and even The Cam" - will that get me there or do i need to change heads too?

thanks for input guys

No the Heads you have on your truck now are perfect spending money on heads will make you mad because you wont see that much HP for 1500 dollars.

For even more Hp do a Comp Cam with a good lift on it, its better than the 6.1 cam by far and way more HP gains.

and when you are rebuilding a new crank shaft pistions and much more can be changed to performance parts for more HP you can build the motor up with no power adders to a good 450 something HP

yeah, only thing that kept my motor from going that high was the timing chain jumped sprocket and messed up my whole top end. that was at 199,989 miles....no joke. just 11 miles shy of 200K. No smoking, no oil consumption, still got great gas mileage for my heavy foot. 14.3-14.8 mpg per tank. No noises or shaking or anything. Just crusing at 60mph down the road and BOOM! Truck shook violently as all the valves and pushrods got bent to hell and back.

If you want to do something with the heads, I suggest a simple porting to portmatch the manifolds to the head will be all you really could use. (after the CAI and headders ofcourse).
