The right torque was marking it before you pulled it and setting it back exactly how it was + a few degrees. It's responsible for preload, I'm not sure what you would torque it to. Doing a pinion seal, or?

np bud, had no idea you were in an 04 lol, just looked in my manual for you. Not that it matters really, same axle regardless of year lol

CAUTION: Never exceed the minimum tightening
torque 285 N·m (210 ft. lbs.) when installing the
companion flange retaining nut at this point. Damage
to collapsible spacer or bearings may result.

I really appreciate u putting all that up there . I have seen many diff torque specs , just makes me crazy . I have my ting gear bolts torqued to 65ft lbs per Yukon manual and it says new pinnion bearing preload of new 14-19 inch
Used bearing 6-9 inch lbs

Yeah I'm not sure what you'd go with using aftermarket parts, but 210 for the pinion nut seems to be the magic number according to our svc. manual. That warning was down a little further in the "replacing pinion seal" section.
