Hi Guys!

Happy to say the job is complete!

After ordering the radiator online from Advance Auto and selecting in store pickup. The Radiator was $118 after discounts. The brand was thing Vista if I remember correctly.

Well After running 8 miles to the only Advance Auto the had the radiator and then running back another way to Napa the only place besides the dealer that carries HOAT compatible coolant (Zerek G05). Then picking up a ladder for a buddy and dropping it off. I completely forgot about the water pump!!! After I had the old radiator out and was looking though the opening did I remember that!

First off! I have to say this is a great engine compartment design in my opinion! I could not believe how easy this radiator swap was! I actually had fun doing it. Then did I notice while under the engine was the thermostat! I actually liked where they placed it! Sadly though... Another thing that I forgot to order!

When I drained the old fluid it was a hint of pink but by the time I filled the bucket up it as almost no pink to more of a black.

After everything was back together and new antifreeze used. The systems appears to be running good again. The temp is staying just a little before the halfway mark on the the temp sensor.

I always have this constant fear of a warped head on the drivers side! It actually worries me a little when I shut the truck off and then feel the radiator about 5 mins later. The inlet plastic tank side of the radiator is very hot to the touch. Cant leave your hand on it for more then a couple seconds. Hope thats all normal!

Other than that I hear what sounds like a heavy vacuum leak on the drivers side on the upper part of the engine. However, everything is running smooth and responsive!

Thanks guys for all you help!

just keep an eye on any fluid loss. I was loosing fluid for years through hose off over flow and showed no sign of head problems until this year. Rebuilt heads and runs beautiful now. suggest get compression tests done. good luck

I agree Milkman, easy access with that engine bay design. I love that the grill lifts with the hood on the gen3.

hahaha, yeah after i took off the radiator fan and fan shround i fit right in there, thats where i spent most of my time, i also had a little makeshift seat that allowed me to sit where the radiator would go and it left me eye level with the water pump.

I am scared to ask how much did those head rebuilds cost you?

Is a head just something of a matter of time with this engine (4.7) or do some escape it ever needing to be done?

I have not looked at it yet, but I swear I hear a large vacuum leak on the drivers side!

Also, when I rev the engine I can't tell for sure but it sounds like a loud rapid fast metallic clatter!
