Default Tailgate torsion bar for '05 QC

Has anyone installed one of these new tailgate assist items on a 2005 RAM quad cab? I am thinking about getting this but want to be sure it will work on my truck.

Their instructions don't specifically state that it will work with an '05, but they do state '94 to present.

I checked and I don't think this forum's sponsor's carry this item, otherwise I would link to them. More information here: http://www.truckspecialties.com/easylift.htm

Install a hydraulic actuator, then you can just push a button to open and close the tailgate.

I looked at the installation instructions at the site.

I do not like the "torsion bar" end (major stress point) simply stuck into sheet metal in a way reminiscent of a large peg-board hook. Seems to me to be a poor solution, one based more on quick and easy installation and cheap production than long-term functionality.

And, how long do you think their recommended protective coat of touch-up paint would stay at that connection point?

A neat idea, rather poorly executed. Anyone know of a better engineered solution?

I don't get it. You can't close your gate? I just swing it up with one hand.

Well, the website is updated to say 2005, but the install sheet says "to present". I usually take my son out of the truck - it's nice of the wife to get the stroller out of the bed. This would allow her to open/close very easily.

Interesting product. Seems like a Ford wannabe product. Lift with the legs, not the back.

I found another solution, but it's expensive. http://www.truckaddons.com/Catalog/s...gateassist.htm
