Default Plastic chrome wheel trims

Has anybody had any experience of removing these type of wheel covers (they are plastic, but look like chrome and are held on by an industrial glue like bathroom sealant I think)
and what are the wheels like underneath?
I was thinking of removing the covers and powder coating the wheels black.

This I can confirm, due to the fact I'm having to buy a new one.

I have the same truck you have Ian, and have looked at powder coating them but not these...
