Default Volant CAI Review

Ok just got a 2004 1500 5.7L and was pretty bummed about the MPG's so I did some research and ended up buying a Volant CAI. Here are my thoughts so far...

Install: Easy as changing the OEM filter.

Performance: Seems to idle smoother and rev a little quicker, I left the battery disconnected for 3 hrs to reset the ECU. Upon drive to work now my MPG's is actually riding right at 18.2 - 19.1 where before it was 15.8 -16.5. So I wil lhave to see if this continues.

Conclusion: I only paid $191 shipped off eBay and it was new. Kind of wishing that the it eliminated the resonator box extending the breather tube all the way to the throttle body. So with the Volant and a custom exhaust I am pretty happy so far with the claims and performance. Also sounds COOL

I will follow this up in the next week as I am adding some 3" brake hose to a brake duct to make this a true CAI. Similar to how Vararam has the two scopes added.

No real gains if you left the resonator on there. That's where the minor restriction is.
The gains mostly came from resetting the adaptive memory in the PCM by unhooking the battery.

Well it is has been 200+ miles and still getting better MPG's than before. I also finished my exhaust setup, Y-Pipe into a Aero 3030 and res. delete. I can cruse now at about 70 mph with the computer showing 19 mpg's....I think that it is to good to be true...but I hope that it continues. My next move is a programmer.

(Still waiting on the brake scopes to finish the CAI)
