engine is 2002.

The coil pack moves within the head, it seems to be "fused" with the spark plug itself.

It's beginning to look like I need a new set of coils too. I don't mind spending the money on this truck, I just wish I had more of it at one time.

The type of coils changed dramatically in '08, but the Chrysler 4.7L has used coil packs directly over the plugs for quite some time now (since the introduction of the LA 287 in '99, I believe). I had a very difficult time removing the coils on my '08 4.7L as well. The rear-most coil on the passenger side actually came apart, leaving half of the rubber in the head. That was a major PITA. If you can find something to pry against, get a big *** screwdriver or a crowbar and leverage the coil out of place.

Here is what I was reefing on, circled in red.

I'm 99.99999% certain this is the coil pack and that I'm pulling on the right thing.

Believe me, I've pulled and pulled......these sons'a'bitches are stuck solidly on the plugs and I'm a little concerned that I'm going to have to spend, at minimum, $320 to replace the broken coil packs that are "all" fused to the plugs.

well you're pulling the right thing...

Was that motor in a flood? Or is it just very dirty? b/c that yellowing all over the place reminds me of a few flood damaged vehicles that I've seen in the past....

You're going to have to get those out of there to get to the plugs... They might break but if they are that stuck on there you wouldn't want to reuse them anyway.

My best guess is that they are melted to the plugs down at the bottom of the tubes... so pull off that electrical connector and stand up on that motor and get to work.

If you want to risk it you can try to pry them out with a flathead screw driver too but bet very very careful.

You can always spray some WD-40 down the tube to try and break them loose a little too, just don't use too much...

Previous owner enjoyed driving through corn fields, and apparently some form of local desert. You wouldn't believe the amount of mud I had to wash off from EVERYTHING. and there are still some places that need a good shot with a pressure washer.

I'm doing some research on a Hemi swap. If the work that needs to be done on this engine is going to end up costing over $1000 for me to do myself, then wtf I might as well drop in a Hemi.

Dropping in a Hemi will end up in the $5,000+ area...

Yeah and $5,000 is just for the motor and wiring.
Not including most of the other parts you will have to pick up to get it to run

Where did you get those numbers? I called a yard today and can get a Hemi for $1500, probably less if I work the deal right.

Then I need a wiring harness, so another couple hundred $$, and an ECM or a flash of my ECM, and the exhaust.

Those are the major components are they not? and that's only about $2000 so far (minus the exhaust)

Am I missing something?

If they get stuck I use a flathead or else a pick with a 90 degree tip

Yes you're missing a ton of stuff... you'll need basically everything in the Engine bay from the Hemi... Do you'll need a donor truck and you'll need damn near everything mechanical and electrical on it.... you'll be pulling all of the interior out to get at the wiring harnesses... it isn't a simple job, but it is possible.
