Default 2002 Ram 1500 4x4 grinding

when in 2 wheel drive I hear a grinding noise coming from differential area. When I sift into 4x4 the noise lessons but does not completely go away. I am assuming that the 4x4 is not completely engaging. Is there an adjustment I need to make. This is the new body style. My 98 had a box on the front right with the fork to engage the gear.

I checked the front differential and the fluid was low so I drained and refilled, but no change.

Any ideas?

Sorry guess that would help.

2002 ram 1500 5.9 4x4.

I am thinking that the shifter that engages the 4x4 is slipping and when I have it in 4x2 it is part way in 4x4, but I dont know how to adjust this. I do not have the vacuum line and fork (that I can find) like my 1998 did.

Are there any DTCs? (Check Engine Light?)

Does the 4x4 engage and work or does it just grind and only drive one set of wheels?

I saw a video on youtube with this same problem.

In his case he shifter fork was riding on one of the gears and it wore the fork away to the point that it wouldn't shift.

The 4x4 engages it sounds like the fork. Is that something that is easily adjusted or do I have to take it to a transmission shop?

The engine light us on but was told it was for a misfire Which I plans on changing the distributor this weekend

I wish I could but I found it randomly and don't remember what I was looking for.

Heres the vid....I had to dig through tons of history to find it.

I'm not sure if it's the same transfer case, but maybe it's the same problem
