2005 RAM HID Install
*Sorry should have been in the HID Thread*
Guys,
My old HID set burnt out awhile ago and I put the old bulbs back in. I bought another set from HIDExtra again, this time with the Relay Harness as well. I also bought the capacitors as I needed them to prevent the Lamp Out light last time and they did work.
Well, I hook everything up and I am left with one wire off the passenger side HID bulb not connected since I am using the Relay harness. That means only one capacitor is used as well it seems. HID Lights come on, but now I get a Lamp out light, likely because that one wire isn't connected now. Any ideas? so annoying.
I am assuming I need resistors instead? I really wish HID Extra would have told me this. I feel like pulling the harness out and not using it, that would solve the problem but then I can't pull power directly from the battery.

Yes, you need a capacitor hooked up to the other side to prevent lamp out light issue's.

Both the left and right circuits should mirror each other...
Don't they make CAN BUS Ballasts that have the load resistors built in now?

well in all honesty, you shouldn't have any problems on a normal vehicle, but we have Dodge so it isn't "normal".
You need to put a load resistor in line from Pos. to Negative on the other connector... that should fix your issue with the lamp out light...
The CAN-BUS System monitors each light separately, so you need to complete the circuits...
You will need a load resistor and a diode so you don't get current going in the wrong direction on both the high and low beam circuits... I can't be more specific without seeing how many wires that loose connector has.
You could have just bought the CANBUS Ballasts that they sell and it would have made the wiring a little easier...
Personally if I was you I would just throw that relay harness in the trash and buy this:

It has independent relays and connectors to match your system.

I just spoke with HIDExtra, they told me to wire it without the relay so I can have a cap on both sides of the truck. Their Canbus system is just built in caps within the ballasts, same as what I am use, it doesn't use the relay either. I think as soon as I introduce the relay the one line is disconnected and is going to cause the issues, there is nothing I can do about that. Unless I go with resistors.
Might just leave the relay out.

That is because their harness uses ONE relay... so you limit the amperage output, which triggers the bulb light too.
Relay is the safest way to install HIDs, and I'll never not use one when installing them...
So, I'd suggest the harness I posted up before... last time I dealt with the people at HIDExtra I wanted to throw a brick through the phone... They are a bunch of idiots in my book...

I think you just installed them incorrectly. I had issues with my truck, sometimes one side is turning on/off and lampout. I called HIDextra and send me capacitors & relay. And it helped resolve my Hid problems.
I'm still running my lights without any problems. And also capacitors, cancellers & resistors are just the same.
