I didn't even think about it but maybe i could screw the cup further up on the screw. So the screw is supposed to push down on top of the retainer?

Yeah, you want to push down on the retainer, which will compress the spring. One the retainer & spring are down far enough, it will expose the 2 keepers. Then you can pull the keepers off and change out the spring.

From what i read the adapter will not work on the exhaust springs only the intake springs



the third piece of the puzzle is how you remove the exhaust springs

Default 170K Broken #1 exhaust Valve Spring

Foung a real small broken spring laying by the broke spring.

Anyone got info on where it may have come from?

I've got no clue where that might be from... I've never seen something like that inside of the valve covers...

Time to pull out the parts diagrams...
