Default Camshaft Pos Timing

I have a code P0022. In the DTC list says A Camshaft Pos-Timing Over-Retarted Bank 2. I am really confused. I have a 03 5.7 with a single cam. To repair this do I have to move the position of the cam sprocket on the chain? Or is a programmer the only way?

Did you change the camshaft or timing chain?

Since you have rebuilt the engine, I'm pretty sure that you will have to take the front back off and line up the timing marks properly. It sounds like the valve timing is retarded too far. This will cause low vacuum/rich mixture and poor low rpm performance.

Check the engine vacuum at idle. i'm betting that it is 15 or less which is too low. Sould be up around 20 or so.

That was what I was thinking but, the guy that actually put the bottom end together for me said when I ask him about the timing being off a tooth that it wouldn't matter that the computer would compensate for it? I didn't know any better, this is the first engine I put together that did'nt have a carb and distributor. Yep I'm getting kinda old LOL!!

The computer can not compensate for a late cam signal. It looks at the crank position vs cam position. Besides, with the valve opening too late, it will have power at high rpms and be a pig at low rpm.
Check the vacuum, if it is lower than 18, make him retime the cam properly.
