Default 08 Ram using oil

Took my truck in for service cause it’s been using oil, quart in 1500 to 2000 miles. Is an 08 Dodge Ram Hemiwith 60,000 miles. Chrysler says a quart every 750 miles is considered normal consumption!! Unbelievable!

My hemi uses 1 quart every 2,000 miles easy . Doesn't smoke so I don't worry to much . It has 50,000 . Or leak . Knock on wood.

I don't know how much oil my truck really uses. I never went past 2500miles for an oil change, but the oil level has never went much below the full line. I'd say I burn ~1/2qt or so every oil change.

Depending on what type of octane gas you use could ultimately depend on oil consumption. You should NOT be using 87oct. Beside's pre-ignition and detonation, 87oct is dirty and builds up lots of carbon, especially on a detonation cycle where the gases cannot completely escape. This clogs and gunks up the rings amongst everything else.
The valve seals could be another culprit, especially if they are dirty and gunked up with waxy oil.
I would dump in a qt or Marvel Mystery oil and drive till your next oil change. Also put in some fuel injector cleaner for the next 2 tanks and only fill up 3/4tank when using the fuel additive because these are 26gal tanks and they dilute the injector cleaner down a bit.
After the 2nd tank and fresh oil change, then see how your consumption improves if any.
You should change your plugs also. They are due every 30kmi. Use basic copper plugs, nothing fancy!! Taking the fender liners out is the easiest way to do them fyi.

Have only used 89 octane, oil change every 3000, plugs at 30K and 60K. Around 40K, started using quart between oil changes, went to every 2000, now about 1500. Dealer serviced. Dealer said PCV was culprit at 60K so replaced, no change. 08 truck has lifetime powertrain warranty. Chrysler won't do anything till it gets worse than quart every 750 miles. Just can't believe quart every 750 miles would be considered normal.

If I tell them that, they will monitor every couple hundred miles to see, mark the drain plug to be sure not tampered with so wouldn't work. Meanwhile, I have placed a magnetic sign on the back telling people about it. Probably won't do anything but make me feel a little better about spreading the word.

thats good advertisement. Too bad it looks terrible on your truck :-(

You could always siphon small amounts off the top of your head where the oil fill is. I could siphon 1qt out in about an hour after a few start ups.

Does your hemi tick? if so, the valve guides are probably wiped. Mine are but i dont really use any oil and I rev the **** outta my engine when towing.
