Default Change oil

Hey guys quick question. My change oil indicator message came on today, I fill with synthetic oil and its only been 5,000 km ( im Canadian) since my oil change. I thought that synthetic will last longer and i only need to change it around 10,000 km. This will be my second oil change since i bought the 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 SXT hemi. Any help would be greatly appreciated

The truck automatically tells you to change the oil every 2500 miles (About 4000 kms?). To get it to go away just turn the truck to ON and press the gas pedal fully 3 times

JDL,

As per the Owner's Manual, page 196, your vehicle is equipped with an engine oil indicator system and is duty cycle based, which means the engine oil change interval may fluctuate dependent upon your personal driving style. Unless reset, this message will continue to display each time you turn the ignition switch to the ON/RUN position. To turn off the message temporarily, press and release the Trip Odometer button on the instrument cluster. To reset the oil change indicator system (after performing the scheduled maintenance) complete this procedure:

1. Turn ignition switch to the ON position (Do not start the engine)
2. Fully depress the accelerator pedal slowly 3 times within 10 seconds.
3. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF/Lock position.

Synthetic engine oils may be used if the recommended oil quality requirements are met and the recommended maintenance intervals, 6 months or 10,000km, whichever occurs first, are followed.

So i am guessing that I shouldnt let it get closer to 10,000 km before i change the oil? That when that light goes on I should change it ASAP?

The indicator doesn't know what kind of oil you're using. I do full synthetic 10K miles = 16,093 kilometers. It was not under warranty of course. I probably wouldn't wast the money on full synthetic if I changed every 5K or so.

I'm ****, I stick with 3,000. I average 1,000 miles a month.

I ignore the oil indicator and change it when I damn well please.
The indicator is based on using conventional anyways, so its pointless with Synthetic users.
Indicator is for oblivious people.
