Default Fog Lights will not come on

Just bought a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 Hemi and cannot get the fog lights to come on. I have checked the fuse and the relay and they appear to be good. Also, there is no fog light indicator light on when the switch is pulled out. If the indicator light does not come on is that a bad switch problem? Also, the bulbs in the fog lights look good. Any ideas??

There is a setting in the computer that will not allow the fog lights to come on. I'd call the dealer and give them the VIN to see if the truck came with fogs or if the previous owner installed them and never got them working. If they were not original, it is likely the option is turned off and you have to go to the dealer to activate the setting. If it is an original option, I'd ohm out the switch, check for voltage to the switch, and voltage coming out of switch at fog setting, then check voltage at fog light plugs...if all voltages check out and switch checks out, I'd test the bulbs with jumper wires directly to battery. If there is voltage at switch and headlights work fine and switch ohms out good, it is quit likely the computer setting is off and needs activated.

Just getting this out of the way, your high beams were off when you tried this right?

I seriously doubt the pcm or bcm has to be reflashed to make them work, that's not really how they do things. Most of the time all the wiring is there, just no relay and no switch. Swap the relay with a similar one to eliminate that as the problem.

Search the forum, there are many threads about installing fog lights and having issues, almost every single one of them states that the issue was needing activated in the computer, yes, wiring is there, but the option needs to be activated. Stereos and everything are now being run through the computer. The new Viper won't even start if you take out the stock radio. Doesn't make much sense, why do I need a friggin computer to control my lights and radio...but that IS how they are doing things now.

Default Fog Lights not coming on

Yes, the fog lights appear to be the original ones that came on the truck. The high beams were not on when I tried the fogs. Does the 2004 Quad cab 1500 have a fog light indicator that will come on in the dash when the fog lights are on? Yes, I did also try another relay switch in the fog light relay.

On an '04, the fog lights do not have to be turned on in the computer. That only applies on the '06+ trucks.

The fog light indicator should illuminate on the lower left corner of the headlight switch. It's pretty small, and can be tough to see in direct light.

So if the fog light indicator light does not illuminate, does that indicate that the switch is bad?

You could go take a multimeter to the foglight harness. Turn the foglight switch on and see if you get voltage to the lights.

Agree w/Joe hemi, check for power, at the fog lights and the switch. The truck I had did not come with fogs. I bought mine from dodge. They now use a rocker switch, not a new head light switch. What I am saying is you may be able the wire it up to the rocker switch.

Thanks for the suggestions guys! Weird thing, I checked both fog light bulbs again and then just followed the wiring and connections with my hand. All looked good and all of a sudden the lights came on are working ever since. Thanks!
