Default Overcab Camper For a 1500???

Hey i'm looking into buying a camper for my 2007 1500 Laramie and was wondering what people would recommend me do as to prevent too much wear on my truck....the dry weight of the camper i'm looking at is 1,382 lbs....any ideas or would i be good to go?

Cheers

I'd go with a tow behind... Those overcab campers get too small too quick...

Plus tow behinds put less stress on the truck's suspension.

My uncle had one, and he always used to complain that it was too small and he never fit into parking spaces... lol

He sold it and bought a SICK tow behind for next to nothing.

You can also go with a 5th wheel or goose neck camper, upside to those is you have more stability and it's wayyyyyy easier to back those things up.

pretty sure the owners manual recommends against it. I agree with a towable, you will get alot more space for less money.

nice thing about the truck campers is you can still take your boat with you
but if you get a 5th you can still have a trailer behind that !!
but a normal hitch trailer then that's all you get so the boat stays at home

I would think you will be fine with a 1300lb slide in worst case you can get air ride helpers or even just a helper springs

I'd really look at E rated tires on there too if you don't already have them.

If you plan on doing both then you will need to get some helper springs plus e-rated tires... that will be a good amount of weight, so you might want to consider installing some 4.10 or 4.56 gears, b/c with all that weight your truck will be struggling a little bit.

well I don't know how mechanically inclined you are, but it is very involved... so for a weekend warrior it might not be advised.... you prolly have 3.92 gears on your truck so you might be able to get by but the truck might struggle a bit on an upgrade....

I don't think I'd worry about gears. An extra 3-4K in camper and boat will hardly be noticeable once you take OD off. There are countless people out there pulling and hauling with stock gears. You can always do that later if you decide performance took too much of a hit for your taste.
