Lighter wallet is the most noticeable difference.

I do see a advantage running a air raid jr kit air intake and filter but a full blown cai is a waste of money, the hemi hat is not restrictive at all..

Uhh what? The Hemi hat is THE restrictive part of the stock air intake. It's the only thing you need to remove to get the gains. That and a better air filter of course

I found a used K&N FIPK on my local craigslist for cheap, so that is an option.

I'll tell you what, I've always thought that if it gained even .1 mpg, they'd do it at the factory if there wasn't a reason not to (cost, noise, longevity, etc.). Under heavy throttle, this thing is LOUD, so there is no way Dodge would want it to sound this way from the factory and appeal to everyone...in the case of air intake, they opted for quiet over best performance (the hemi hat).

That's the reason I was able to pick it up cheap on craigslist, the guys wife drove the truck and she hated how it sounded, I don't mind it.

The K-N 77 series on my truck has better throttle response than stock, sounds better, and pulls much harder on the high end, and possibly gained a minute amount of gas mileage. You will like one on your truck

Have you seen the under side of the hemi hat? Thier is a 90 degree mandrell bend, verry free flowing, from the air box intake into the TB, Thier are two inlets , one of the left and and one of the right of the hemi hat, I doubt that is causing any restriction..

Im trying to up load a pic ... I could see the air intake hose as a possible restriction..
