2007 Ram 1500 5.7 idle... Stumped.
Hey all, new to the forum. Hope everyone is well!
I have an 07 1500 hemi, 82k. Purchased last October with 74k. I have a persistent low idle issue that's been getting worse in the last couple of weeks. After driving coming to a stop, idle comes down to 600, 500, and stops at 400rpm! Lights dim, oil pressure at the border of normal and low, trips the CE light usually once a week for "low oil pressure". It never stalls, but turning on the AC, or turning the steering wheel makes it drop below 400 before bouncing back up to 500-- which I still think is low. If its idling low enough for CE lights and dimming electronics, something's not right.
Not sure where to start. Obviously a sensor or computer issue.
On top of the very low idle, I don't think 10 MPG is quite the norm... I'm a firefighter, don't get me wrong I'm on it sometimes, but I've reset it several times and did a 150 mile round trip to a nearby city and averaged 11.5 on the highway at 70... Seems low? Maybe the two issues are hand in hand? I know this truck isn't meant for fuel economy, but most people seem to be getting atleast 14-15 MPG.
Any insight would be much appreciated, maybe there's someone out there that's had a similar issue?
Thanks guys!
Harry

I agree, a throttle body cleaning could help. Could also be a bad IAC valve, tps sensor or some oil sludge buildup. IAC and Tps sensor are like 35-50 bucks. You could try running some seafoam through the oil and doing an oil change to help clear out any sludge. Also, something else im not that familiar with but have read on here before, there is some oil valve or something that can get clogged, maybe near the oil pan? Maybe someone else will chime in with more info on that. Easiest and cheapest thing to start with would be throttle body cleaning.
Also EGR valve can sometimes affect idle, but that would be my last guess.

It is "drive by wire" so it does not have a IAC.
It sounds like the throttlebody is dirty. Since the PCM adjust the throttle blade to achieve the desired idle, if there is buildup of carbon on the backside, the blade can hang causing idle issues. It is easy to remove and clean. I used throttlebody cleaner and a rag to clean mine.
