Default rpms high. running rich.

03 dodge ram 1500 4.7 120,000 miles just put used engine that had 90,000 miles. Sells man said the darango it came from was rolled. At cold start rpms jump to 3000 for a few secs then drop downbetween 300-700 untill warm. Steadys out at 700. It is running very rich. I smell gas in cab and anywhere near the exhaust. Changed plugs, o2 sensor ,iac sensor, tp sensor. All coils are firing. Put Lucus gas treatment in and now letting it idle for a few hours to burn air and ect from gas lines. What else can i check?

Welcome to the forum. I made this a separate thread for ya.

Have you scanned for codes? What are they?
Does the truck have cat converters still on it?

well if the intake air temp sensor is faulty then the engine will add fuel to compensate to prevent knocking.

So fix that sensor b/c it uses it in conjunction with the MAP sensor to determine fuel mixture.

Also what year Durango did that motor come from?

I just picked up a used 03 4.7 ram that i have been getting back to running condition. And this is the last thing i hopefully have to fix, engine running rich. I noticed today though that the IAT sensor( Intake Air Temperature Sensor ) has no wire harness connect to it and it looks like from the service manual that it should be grouped with the TPS and MAP sensor wires but its just not there. Not even a code is being thrown!

Any clue how i need to rewire this or a solution so i can hopefully get rid of my running rich problem?

Well it's pretty hard to lose that sensor b/c it should have been taped up with the TPS and MAP sensor so you should first follow the main harness back from those sensors and see if it maybe got tucked away somewhere...?

My service manual says mine is on the intake manifold but it is actually on my air sleeve between the air filter and air box.

As for my truck replacing the IAT sensor didn't fix anything I pulled the MAP sensor off and it was cracked so I'm waiting for a new one.

I have a sensor there as well but i assumed it was a MAF sensor? Do these trucks not have a MAF sensor; 4.7 in general?

I do have a IAT sensor in the exact place the service manual has it listed but just no connection anywhere to be found for it.

Took it to a shop yesterday to see if they can trace the source of the lost connection still havent heard anything yet other than "its not throwin any codes;"

I see that IZERO has posted in another thread that

2002-2009 That no Dodge has a Mass Air Flow sensor.

If this is to be true and what i thought was a MAF sensor is my IAT, why would i have a spare one on the intake manifold. Do you think the previous owner moved it from this location to the air resonator?

Do you think for best running engine results i should move the IAT connection to the sensor located on the manifold like the service manual has described? Different kindof temp readings maybe before the air resonator or inside the intake manifold or do you think it wouldnt matter?
