Unhappy I'm new and I have a question

Hi, I'm Paula and I have a question about my truck. I have a 2007 Ram 1500 in wonderful condition, but about a month ago the passenger side door would not unlock. You could pull the inside door handle up and open the door but as soon as you let go of the handle the door would lock back. After about a week it just started working again but after a few days it began to make a squealing noise when it locks. Does anyone have any ideas about what might be wrong?????

Do you have power door locks?

Do you happen to have a video of this happening? As it will be hard to help without seeing what you mean.

Paula,

My initial thoughts would be a shorted or loose wire going to the lock motor or the lock motor itself going bad.

Sounds like a short in a wire gong to the pass side door lock actuator or a bad door lock switch. If it is making noise then it will need replaced but you should fix the problem before you replace the actuator.

Yes I have power door locks but I do not have a video of this.

So I need to replace the door lock switch? Is it in the door panel?

You might just need to replace the switch... see if it happens when you unplug the door lock switch on the passenger side door.

If it does then it might be the drivers side.

Those kinds of problems are really hard to diagnose without getting to take a look in person.

Yes it could be the pass side door lock switch or it could be a short in a wire. If I were you I would get somebody who knows how to track down the problem. But If you do try to replace the switch your self be careful removing your switch it is easy to break things if you are not sure how to them apart.

I agree, could be the actuator is bad (more than likely), a damaged wire in the loom between the body and the door, or a bad switch.
