Hey, I dont really want to hi-jack this thread, But i think it pertains to almost the same information sorta. I just bought my truck last month. the previous owner seem to take good care of the truck (changed oils, diff fluids, tranny fluids, rebuilt tranny with upgraded parts) however, I check the antifreeze and i know on the dodge rams you are suppose to use a special kind (even says it on the overflow cap).

well from what you guys have been posting and what I have, did the previous owner screw up and do i need to do a antifreeze flush? mine is green, not red.

Do you have a 5.9 or 4.7 V8?

If 5.9, you can leave it. If 4.7 flush it out.

Get you some standard green and mix it 50/50 in a bottle with distilled water. Pour it on in.

next time you do your flush pull the thermostat put it back together without the thermostat and then flush it. After the flush put the thermostat back in, that will get all the coolant out. You replaced your thermostat anyhow you could have done it without much extra work.
A 180 degree thermostat i think is the way to go too, but they are hard to find at local auto parts stores.

I have a modified thermostat that has no guts, just the flange and the seal. Using this I can flush it out, but not leak water all over the place. After flushing, I reinstall the real thermostat. I'll have to post a picture of my little flushing creation. If you are willing to do the extra work, it's worth the effort. That's why I was shocked I still had ANY old antifreeze.
