There's your problem right there. That's no warm-up at all. My last fill-up was $3.53/gallon.

My last fill up was around $10.
But thank The Lord for LPG gas which is what I use at approx $4.5 a gallon.
And to the op.... Yeah that's pretty normal for short trips.

Ha damn, mine looks the same way and my truck has never left the south / Florida.
Drive it more? Perhaps.

Gets cool of a morning in Florida winter time.
Short drives with moisture build up in the cap, is definately possible :-)

Something should be done about it. That thing and the PCV valve need to be kept clean and dry in colder climates. I blew out a valve cover gasket a couple years ago when it was -40C because the crank gases couldn't get out of the engine... The worst part is having to fix it outside when it's -40C.

Good luck keeping either of them "clean and dry". The only way the PCV valve can be clean is to have the passageway to it blocked. I don't see how the cap could be dry. Maybe it's possible.

Oh yeah, the previous winter in GA. It was like 30 degrees every morning. I used to change oil during that time every 4000mi on my previous RAM. And when it was in Michigan, I never saw any build up... This truck, though, I haven't had it for that long at all... Don't know what oil was used in it and don't know for how long, the truck has spent all its life in the south is all I know. For this condensate gunk to appear, it would have to take a good while, correct? And a good few miles in between oil changes..

My dad's 4.7 has always been on time as he is the second owner and has owned it for the past near 80k miles. In the winter it too gets the sludgey crap on the oil cap.

The 4.7's are bad about that, but the 5.7's aren't much better in the winter time.

My truck? No sludge.
