Welcome to DF.

The early Mega Cabs like yours do indeed have 2500 axles. I do indeed hope you can tow 7300 lbs... my little Dakota (with trailer tow package) is rated to tow about 6800 lbs.

For future reference:

I will move you to the correct section now.

Yep my regular half ton 1500 is rated for over 8k lbs. So you can definitely tow more than that with a Mega. Although 4x4 does lower the rating by a couple hundred pounds. But yes you will be fine as long as you aren't loading another vehicle onto the trailer

Not loading a vehicle hauling 35' travel trailer @ 6950lbs
I pulled it home yesterday and didn't know all tanks were full of water and it pulled ok. I empties all tanks and will tow tomorrow about 100 miles. Dodge says it will tow 7400

Yea I just looked it up. Hmm that's weird because you'd think it would be higher then the regular 1500s since mine is rated at 8750. I guess it has to due with the weight of the vehicle since a Mega is alot heavier and it's still classified as a 1500 due to the leaf springs so that brings the rating down. Either way you're still good. Just don't get pulled over if you go over

What I have found is its only 50lb lighter than the 2500. I'm going to add some helper springs and may go with 5/10 gears, this should solve any problems at least until I go get a 2500 with a Cummings

5.10 way to much gear IMO. I had the same size tires on a 1500. I ran 4.56 gears

Can you even get 5.10 gears for our trucks? I thought the highest was 4.88s and that's for 2WD only

4.88 for 2wd. 4.56 is as high or low you can go in the front diff. I believe he will have 2500 axles. 5.10 I think will be too much, with the tires hes running.

I know he has 2500 axles but I still didn't know you could go that low. Never seen anyone do it.
