that's weird, Chrysler recommends minimum 89 octane in the hemis. don't show them those fuel receipts. It might screw up your warranty.

Yep, only blown Hemi's I've seen to date either showed signs of overheating/head issues or destroyed cylinders showing obvious pre-detonation from running 87 octane fuel over long periods.
We post about how important it is to either run 89+ or re-tune the vehicle to safely run 87 octane - which draws the "haters" out in droves.

To the OP, have the block checked - even badly scored walls can be sleeved. It's not overly difficult to completely rebuild the engine and complete rebuild kits containing EVERYTHING needed are available for under $1000. If you want to price out some full rebuild kits PM me, I have a couple of sources I can give you.

I had to completely rebuild the 4.7 HO last year in my Grand Cherokee and even with having to pay for both heads to be rebuilt I came out around $2000. Rebuilding your pushrod V8 is a walk in the park compared to the OHC 4.7...

Which is crazy when you think it is on average 10 cents more for 89 versus 87. Even if you are dead on E or past it, most trucks have a 26 gal tank so thats $2.60 per tank? Thats nothing

Have you exhausted all options for the warrenty denial? You might even have a state agency that can check into the denial reason.

I am just finishing up on my 5.7 rebuild, they aren't to hard to rebuild just get a good manual(for tq specs and info). porting & polish the heads is good power increase, but better know what your doing. watch a couple horsepower tv episodes and you get a better understanding. definetly a cam swap with springs and pushrods will help drematicly. The new gasket seal and ring kit with melling oil pump only costed $600 from flatlander racing.com shipped to CAN. everything fit perfect. So they are pretty cheap to rebuild if you have the resources and equipment.
