Default valve cover blows up

So quick run down blew my head gasket had that fixed (117K).
Truck has been running fine, but I took the camper out this week end only a 30 min drive from home.

Heading there everything is good. coming home I see a check engine light come on. I'm driving up a long hill kinda steep. and check engine light comes on. Top the hill hook my code scanner to it and it shows a miss fire on 2.. I'm about halfway home and that's the worst hill so I puppy it home.

5 min from home I stop at a light a very small hill. when I pull away i get a loud BOOM a cloud of white smoke. Motor is still running I turn the corner quick and pull into a parking lot. Pop the hood and the valve cover is blown apart.

anyone have any insight, I'm thinking a back fire due to the misfire.
My buddy who does all my mechanic work (50 years as a mechanic) sees it and says he never saw a valve cover blow apart like that.

haven't gotten it apart yet to see if anything else is wrong but still only show a 302 code in the scanner.

I've heard of guys cracking or blowing the plastic intake due to a backfire but never a VC. What do the valve springs and pushrods look like?

Pics please

What motor? From the head gasket issue, I'd guess the 4.7? Kinda sounds like a valve dropped into the motor and the compression pressure through that open hole blew the cover off. Don't see how a back fire could get into the valve train.

what I can see of the valve train through the broken cover Everything looks to be there and in place yet.

Hopefully there is not too much damage but you do have to figure out the misfire. Maybe a rocker arm broke and pushed the push-rod up into the valve cover.

Check the pcv valve, make sure its working ok, may have drained some fuel past the rings and detonated it.

No, they're aluminum (I'm in the process of taking mine off to change the valve springs )

No push rods in the 4.7
