Default Think I Finally Decided on a Tonneau Cover

After much research and indecision about what type of tonneau cover to go with, including the idea of not having one at all, I think I've finally made a decision, the Tekstyle Profile cover. It's a soft cover with integrated bows, velcro sides, over rail mount, easy adjust tension. A buddy of mine has one on his '05 F150 and loves it. He used to have a Truxedo (or maybe it was Extang) with the J channel and he can't say enough good things about the Tekstyle. Of course, he is complaining of a "thwaping" sound from the bed at 70 MPH which he thinks might be due to the tension not being properly set. Of course as I type this, I'm still thinking maybe I don't need any cover at all. Guess I still have this indecision obstacle to overcome but I think I finally settled one what cover at the very least!

The Extang has the J channel. I checkout out it and the Truxedo before I bought and found more good stuff written up on the Truxedo, so I want with it and have been very pleased with it. It doesn't have a J channel, it has about 1" of heavy duty velcro instead. The supports roll up with it, and there are securing straps for it when rolled up and has a tension adjustment. I haven't had any "thwapping" at all with it. Also comes in different colors.

Good luck with whatever you decide on.

I'm looking for a cover, can you post the guys info? Was it in good condition? How hard was it to install?

Sorry I know this post is from months ago, I just found it and thought maybe you could help me.

Thanks

$300 is a little much for me now. I lookedup Trailblazers and it says he is no longer registered. Man, Christmas is killing my bank account... I also have a longbed. I did find one on eBay that says it's "Acrylic" and not Vinyl. Does anyone know if this is really better? I found it for only $175, which isn't bad for a 8ft cover.

I bought a Extang for my 04 and i have to say that it is by far the biggest waste of money...It is 1 year old and already has a tear in it and is starting to crack.........Im just going to wait til spring and get a cap or hard cover....I will never buy a soft cover again.

To update my situation, I ended up originally going with the Tekstyle Profile soft cover. Nice looking cover, very easy to use (no snaps, no j-channel, two tightening levers) and it layed virtually flat. It, however, did not seal well against my tailgate nd got worse over time. One corner of it stuck up on the air almost 1/4". This cover leaked badly in those areas obviously because the wetherstripping was not making good contact in spots. I checked the install (I didn't put it in, local Line-X shop did) measurements and they were exactly what Tekstyle said they should be. I took it back to Line-X, they looked at it and said there must be a manufacturers defect with the cover to do that. They ordered me another and when it came time to install it, the new one did the same thing. Needless to say I didn't want it and the Line-X dealer had offered a swap out for another brand cover before I even got a chance to open my mouth. I ended up with the Undercover hard cover that only weighs 58 lbs as it isn't fiberglass, it's a composite. I've had it two weeks now and I love this thing, opens up pretty high, seals well, locks, the black cover looks great with my silver truck and best of all it's easily removable and light. Check out www.undercoverinfo.com.

Also as an update. I did order the cover on ebay I found eariler. It's EXCELLENT. This Acrylic material is good. I decided to try it after reading the guys post about the extang cover. If anyone is looking, I personally now will not get any soft cover unless it is acrylic. In the auction the guy says it's like the material of a covertable top. This is true. It's very strong and I don't think would rip or tear easy or even scratch. The picture in this guys auction dosen't do it justice. He does say the picture in the auction isn't of the product (strange people sell stuff on ebay like that, but oh well) It's kinda like a really, really thick pair of jeans, only a dark black. The picture on the auction shows a shiny black cover. The actual material isn't shiny, further down the auction there was another picture of a girl standing next to a truck with the tailgate down. The cover there looks more like the same material that this one is.

It looks really good and installed pretty easy. It was also 4-degrees today and this morning I had to unsnap and resnap it and it was easy. I think the material may also not shrink as much in cold weather. It was $175 + $30 for shiping and took about 2 days to get here.

If any else is interested, I got them from an auction he (aftermarketauto2005 on ebay) had running which is closed, but I clicked on "other seller's items" and found he is also selling them here:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=8009806781

The only problem I had was that I had bedrails installed which I had to remove to put the rails that the cover snaps to on. I'm going to look for some bedrails that work with tonneau covers now, or maybe not. I didn't really use them much anyways and probably just going to see if I can sell them on eBay myself.

Thanks all for your help
