Hmmmm, Chevy's new 6.0 with 345/380
That's right. Looking through Sport Truck magazine while waiting to check out and I noticed the word Hemi in the new Chevy add. They claim "The Hemi BEATER". Of course I had to take a minute to read and it seems that the 2006 Chevy with the 6.0L has an equal 345HP and 380 ft/lbs of torque. Of course this is only in the crew cab, but still interesting, non the less. Looks like Dodge needs to step it up to the 425HP 6.1L and MDS together...

Agreed, I'd like a 6.1 Hemi. I'd pass on MDS, though, if given a chance. Why not make it switchable since it's all done with electronics, anyway?
However, as a C-5 Vette driver (only GM product I've ever owned, or would own), I'm VERY impressed with the Chevy LS-series engine. I looked at buying a take-out LS-6 for a project and was it ever physically tiny--and light weight! I'm thinking of one in a Solstice after my wife's B'ville race car--KB supercharged V/8 Miata--gets finished. And performance upgrades are a snap since there is a big market, given Vettes, trucks, and GTOs share a common engine, except for the details.
However, being a Mopar fan a heart, I'd love a more powerful stock hemi, "out of the crate." I'm tired of doing ALL the work on my projects! Guess I'm just getting old.
We'll see what Xler does, I guess.

Well, if it's anything close to the turd I just traded in, 05 1500HD with 6.0, then we'll all be underwhelmed. I only had the 6.0 for 3 months and was tired of going 40 mph up a steep hill with the pedal to the floor and only 3000 lbs. worth of boat on the back. The new Hemi screams up the hill at 60 with the boat on the back only down shifting once and passing people. Yeeeeeyuuuuuuuh!

I think that only reason they call it a HEMI "beater" is that it has 5 ft/lbs of torque more which isn't squat. Thought I'd just share the news. I do wish they'd (DC) stick the 6.1L in the trucks. Hopefully they monitor this board for input, hint, hint if your listening DC...
