Default Buying First Dodge go with 4.7 or 5.7?

Hey guys i'm in the process of looking for my first "reliable" pickup. i'm trying to find something around 90,000 miles or so and i was wondering which engine to go with? I've found quite a few of both, but recently I've been eyeing this one with a 4.7l in it. I won't be towing hardly at all and about 90% of my miles will be on highways or good dirt roads. I'm not planning on mudding each weekend or anything like that mostly a good solid college pickup. I am a farm kid but i use my dads pickups for most of the farm work. I am hoping this pickup will last to around 150,000 miles with no real big breakdowns.

-So would the 4.7 be alright for my situation or should i just try and find a good 5.7 pickup?

- I'd also like to put a good, loud exhaust on it for example a flowmaster super 10 Yd out. Does that sound good on a 4.7?

Thankyou

For all around transport, 4.7 will be fine......until you get your first ride or drive in a hemi, then you'll want the extra power. If you can find a decent 5.7, I'd say go for that.

If more or less looking for something to get around and you're not planning on lifting it and getting huge tires, I'd focus more on finding the high mileage truck that seems to be in better shape overall than just the engine size. I've had full size trucks over the year with a lot less power than the 4.7 and did just fine until I planned on towing more. It'll do a lot of that stuff too but as mentioned above, once you get used to the bigger V8's it's hard to go back.

I don't plan on really lifting it huge just a good leveling kit most likely, and decent all terrain tires. I'm begining to think about looking for a good 5.7.

I have a 4.7 in mine and it does the job for me. I do a lot of highway driving during the school year and tow snowmobiles in the winter and a little towing here and there in the summer. It spends a good amount of time off road. I've done it all with this truck and it will get the job done, but at the end of the day I would have rather got a hemi. I love the truck overall and the 4.7 does work, but I wouldnt mind an extra 110hp and 80ftlbs from the 5.7

The MPG between the 2 is nearly the same, with the 5.7, you'll have the power should you ever need it, rather than wishing you had it.

It's almost a no brainer-----get the 5.7, you'll be glad you did

When talking 4.7s you'll also want to consider the year. The 4.7s after 2008 got a nice HP and TQ boost that put it almost level with the 5.7. But if its before 2008 I'd go with the 5.7. You'll regret it later if you don't lol.

P.S. I'm also a college student so I feel your pain

I would wait and find a good 5.7. Like mentioned you will end up wishing you had that extra HP under the hood and MPG is pretty much the same

I have an 07 4.7 and also had a hemi. The 4.7 is a great truck and I've no big issues with it. I'm roughly at 107,000 miles. You can feel the power difference between the two but that doesn't mean the 4.7 is bad, I myself don't tow as much as I do off road so this truck is perfect and it does have some good pick up, especially now during these cooler days : )

I am thinking about buying 2007 4x4 with the hemi. It has 150k miles. Seems high to me any advise? Also, truck was repo and looks great inside and out but when they went to pick it up it would only move in 2nd gear. Dealer says no big deal probably a chip or something. Sounds like serious transmission problem to me. Any advise or what to look for?
