Question look at used 04 1500 5.7 need advice

after selling my 02 1500 4x4 4.7 short bed ( 2 door). I looked at a 1500 4x4 with 102k miles on it clean no rust on body just some under it they all get it here where I live surface rust on the leaf springs etc. (2 door)with a 5.7 longbed for sale.can anyone tell me what look for with the 5.7 ?The truck drove ok but one of the rear wheel cylinders was leaking what would a shope charge me to fix that?when I first opened the hood I could smell coolant but they the smell went away in like 15 seconds and there was no leak not sure what that could be? and when I turned a sharpe corner I felt a fast thump under the truck just once It did it so fast i couldnt tell what it was.guess I should let a shop check the truck before I buy it wouldn't you?.I did notice that my 02 1500 short bed with a magnaflow cat back was faster than the 04 5.7 for some reason maybe cause of the shorter bed?or the manaflow cat back? im not sure.but other than that I just want to know what problems if any do 04 .5.7 have?

Well so far on my 04 in 190,000 miles I have replaced:
(besides normal maintenance)

1. Rear end (posi clip problem they all do it)
2. Front wheel bearings (hubs)
3. Rack and pinion
4. Ball joints upper and lower/tie rods
5. Fuse box (motherboard board inside corroded)
6. Water pump
7. Door Lock cylinder
8. Rear taillight socket assembly
9. a/c blend doors

truck runs great .. burns no oil and tranny doesn’t slip

Yes it’s a 5.7 hemi. All they rear end posi clips fall off (just the rear) usually somewhere between 40,000 and 100,000 miles. Sometimes it destroys the entire rear end sometimes it just needs a rebuild.. to fix the problem an aftermarket carrier must be used
just do a search on posi clips in the forum hundreds of threads.
i bought the truck new for like $19,000

I have a 2004 dodge ram hemi 111111 miles. I have replaced the rack and pinion and mine burns a half quart of oil in 4000 which is normal during cold weather. I love the truck

Hard to say, the Hemi has plenty of power and more but not sure what you consider (real fast). Are you talking off the line or at what speeds and does it have oversize tires that would effect the gear ratio? Check the tranny fluid too, see if its burnt or smells burnt for possible slippage.you should be able to smoke the tires off the line with no problem..

If your 02 4.7 was faster than the 04 hemi there is something wrong with the 04. There is no way the 4.7 should outrun it.
