Default Water pump 05 1500 4.7

Ok guys. Havin some trouble with the ram again. The original water pump went out at 120,000 I've put 2 new ones on it in the last month about to be a third tomorrow. And replace the tensioner the along with the last one. The center of the wheel on the inside of the pump is literally shattering off the shaft. Any idea what's causing it? It's only been with the two new one. The original just started leaking. Is just a bad pump design or is there something wrong. The parts store said they just started carrying that brand so he didn't know anything about them. He ordered me a different brand today should have it tomorrow morning. Thanks. Brandon

you are not alone, Im on 4th one in 3 years Parts these days suck. Original one lasted
3 years then last 3 years in a row put on a new pump been only getting like 6000 miles out of them 2 I got from Summit racing one they replaced on warranty then 2 weeks ago I went to Advanced auto and bought a new one not re-manufactured. we shall see I'm looking to trade the truck in the spring so Hope it lasts that long, To many issues with this ram.. I only have heat on the defrost mode,(blend doors) , Lights in the heater panel don't work, passenger quarter panel rusted out 3 holes, and I got some hesitation i can't figure out.. Driving down the road the truck just lunges then slows down and lunges again without movement of the gas peddle, and I feel theres something in the transmission going bad as it seems to not want to move in the mornings when i put it in gear till i let it run for like a minute. also the 4X4 light flashes every so often without touching the **** and it makes the truck buck Time to let someone else fix them.. Looking at new ones.. Maybe even as early as next week as im on vacation

BHoward89: Sounds like a clogged radiator/system causing the pump to over work and not flow as much coolant to keep itself cool thus heating up and premature death. 4.7L's are notorious for clogged radiators.

boopadoopa, don't go hating me for saying this....seems like you have a bunch of minor problems that generally get fixed as they appear and it seems you have neglected them and now there are a bunch causing you frustration. Can't really blame the truck for that! You have a 2007(7yrs old now) and I'm sure your getting upwards of 100kmi?

Hesitation: sounds like your Throttlebody needs to be replaced. There are resistance strips with little contact brushes inside. If they read incorrectly, it will cause surging/high idle, erratic shifting.
Trans trouble: Return filter seals leak and cause trans not to engage until pressure is built up. Typical problem with early style filters as well as dirty filters that have never been replaced.
4wd light: contacts are likely going bad on the $40 switch OR you need a new solonoid switch that is only $15.<--usually the problem
Fender rust: All Dodges have 2 panels that meet at the lip, if not thoroughly washed out in salt areas, they will rust.
Light out: not sure if those are replaceable?? Maybe little 192's?

All your issue's are common problems that are considered general maintenance items. Not sure about your waterpump problem. Have you ever flushed your coolant? Been 7yrs now...

Not hating anyone or the truck .. Throttle body was cleaned nothing worked, radiator was flushed out regularly, even after the new pumps were installed, Transmission was flushed and new filters installed in 2010 at dealer and 2012 myself Just because i thought it wasnt processed right the first time. Yes it has 93000 miles, Not mad at the truck. Nickle and dimeing me Ive had a dodge since i was first driving im 48 now.. Plan on getting another.. newer model thats all :-)

as for the throttle body...Can't clean out the internals. They are not serviceable. Internals I am referring to is within the black box on the side.

as per my statement earlier....There are resistance strips with little contact brushes inside. If they read incorrectly, it will cause surging/high idle, erratic shifting

as for the star wheel inside of the water pump.. its a cheap pump.

I have been replacing them for years... Dodge, Chrysler and Jeep.. NOT FACTORY.. just cheap aftermarket. I have seen them break off the shaft and I have seen the tips disappear
