When you do your finial back lash adjustment. Use the little holes on each side of the pumpkin at 3.00 and 9.00 o’clock were to cover goes to make your adjustments. Use a small flat head screw driver and a small hammer. because its hard making the finial adjustments from the axel .

You probably want to make sure your pinion yoke (flange) is smooth. I had my differential rebuilt at a driveline shop because it was not worth getting all the special tools needed for the amount of labor but I can understand not trusting shops to do the job correctly. If the worn gear pattern looks good I would not change the shim on the pinion. From what I have read changing the gear pattern on used gears causes noise. I would have needed the inch pound torque wrench for measuring pinion preload, a pinion yoke tool, the carrier preload adjuster tools and the dial cage.

Ive got all the tools minus the preload wrench which Im making later today. Gear compound is impossible to find locally but I have found an alternative.

Its cold outside today and I really dont feel like doing this but I guess I will have to get to it

Going to pick up my diff/carrier parts from several shops across town here in a few. Of course no one place has everything.
