Is it possible to install a 5.3 liter Chevrolet Engine in a 2005 Dodge Ram Quad Cab?

Yes. But you'll need either the entire harness from the doner truck, or one of those stripped down ECU+harness combos they sell.

Also I hate the 5.3 from like 07 on. Such a bitch to work on in the vehicle.

Easy answer..NO.
Ridiculious question from any point of view, even if you weren't mechanically inclined.
Why would you go through all that work to lose power?
GM 5.3L = 295hp 335ft.lbs
Dodge 5.7L = 345HP / 375ft.lbs

5.3L has 50HP LESS and 40ft.lbs/tq LESS

If you're gonna do it, do it with an LS7 (or the truck equivalent LQX) or something much more "deliberate"

As odd as it sounds, maybe he got the engine for free? If it can be done without springing out cash for an engine, why not?

Because it would be a huge headache and probably cost more than if he were to drop something that belongs in there. We are talking transmission bellhousing issue's, wiring, ECU, throttle body + cable fitment, on and on, etc.
Not to mention, he'd never be able to sell it. It'd be a frankenstein truck and who is willing to buy that?

This is not like the 1960's before all the electronics. Back then as long as you had an engine that would mount to the transmission and that could still fit, you could pretty much change the engines, perhaps you would have to redo the exhaust if going to a bigger engine but now you would have an electronics nightmare.
