Yeah, in my case it was seized u-joint in that shaft. The pin bearings inside can lose their grease and seize.

Yeah I was hoping the ujoint would have stopped it, I did change the transfer case fluid last night and it was fine, level and all that looked good. This thing has me stumped.

Wheel bearings are new and I just had the cv joint replaced on the drive shaft that go's from tranfer case to front diff. I drove truck for a week with the shaft removed and had no problems. The u-joint feels fine. But now that i've put the drive shaft back in the problem is back. It feels like something is hitting the floor by my feet when i'm driving at hwy speeds.

I had a hub bearing go out after install on my Durango. Same sound, but at 30-35 mph.

So, I accidentally posted this to the wrong thread once. Sorry, I'm a noob. Check the linkage from the gas pedal down to the steering shaft and over to the throttle valve on the transmission if it's an automatic. Sounds crazy but just try it. I came across this in the service manual for a 1997 with a 46 re in it. I believe it is called the torque shaft and throttle valve assembly. It has something to do with adjusting the fluid pressures in the transmission when you do things like turn really hard and mash the throttle but if it comes out of adjustment it can cause weird propeller shaft noises and floor board thumping especially with a downshift from four to three with the throttle off. I don't know I could be way off here. I am pretty sure that at least on the second generation there was not really a "recall" but there was a "revision."
