Default Can I change wheel size on 2003 Ram 1500 4x4

I own a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT Quad Cab 4x4. Love the truck but want to change wheel size. Currently I have 20x7 aluminum wheels with P275/60R20 tires...I want to put on 17x8 wheels and P265/70R17 tires so I use snow chains in the winter. Can I do it? and will it screw up my computer electronics? Thanks

The overall diameter change (if any) will affect your speedometer and odometer. Otherwise, it should be good to go.

Fit just fine, might need an adjustment.

Care to explain this one?

Do you mean odometer adjustment?

265/70/17 is a 31.6" tire in theory. Adding tire chains to them will obviously increase the overall diameter. I dont see any need to adjust the odometer.
I know that my odomoter is incorrect at the 275/60/20 setting when I had my LTZ's on there since they were actually 32.5", not 33". I changed the setting to 31.5" and odometer was dead on. Odd, I know.

OP, I wouldnt make any odometer changes. Worse case you'll be slightly faster on the read out.

A 285/70r17 tire would be almost the same diameter as the 275/60r20. Don't know if you want to go that wide or not. With the 265 you might end up 4% off on the speedometer assuming yours is correct now.

285s would be happier on 9" wheels. 8" is a bit too narrow. I think the proper range would be 8 1/2" - 10"

Not odometer adjustment, that is illegal. Speedo adjustment so it reads correctly.
