Electric fan vs crank fan
Has anyone know or have done a swop out, there crank fan and replace it with an electric fan from a differnt vehicle, like a plug and play type of thing? I herd that it was possible to do so. Any suggestions?
I've swapped out the mechanical fan in my Durango with one from a 90s 3.8L Taurus. It's pretty popular to use that fan, there are a couple of other guys around the forum here that have done so, not to mention tons of other guys out there online with off road trucks and such. Between figuring out mounting and running wires it took me an afternoon to do.
Not sure your budget, but I put a flex a lite 183 kit ($350) in about 2 years ago and never regretted it.
Turns on/uses power when needed, remains off when not. Throttle response and low end power is greatly improved. Also makes the under hood sound quieter (when not running) Dollars to doughnuts the best mod I have done.

I haven't heard anything bad about the flex a lite setups, but the taurus fan is much cheaper than that and moves just as much, if not more air. I'm certainly glad I ditched the mechanical fan.
I did the Flex a Lite thing way back in '05, was the 280 kit that the 283 replaced. Still works like a champ...

When I had my 2001 Durango, I just took it off and left in my back seat in case I ever needed it. That was a free mod for me, but I also had the electric fan for the auxiliary transmission cooler. I never towed anything, but stop and go traffic in 100 degree weather never even made my needle rise beyond normal operating temperatures.
Maybe a slight difference in mpg, but a hell of a big difference in engine response, although the clutch on my fan was one of those aftermarket ones that liked to engage way more than it needed to. It sounded like a jet taking off.
