That's what I assumed, but hadn't seen much mention of it in this thread. Was wondering if it's minimal and not very noticeable, or if people had their MDS switched off to avoid that sound. Or if they are just living with it...

If anyone has used a programmer to turn off the MDS I'd be curious to hear if it had much impact on their MPG.

Exactly, and the louder the muffler the more noticeable the mds kicking in will be
As far as turning it off, I definitely turned it off on the 06 I had, because it sounded like hell when it kicked on, but at that time I had headers, high flow cats and no resonators and it was pretty loud with a dual in and dual out magnaflow X muffler. I never experienced any noticeable mpg decrease on that year. I'm sure it hurts mpg slightly but I never turned it back on because I was losing so many mpg's

I dont want this cutout to be empty, so I need to stick with a single system with the exit at right rear. I also think stainless is really the only way to go.

The Magnaflow system 15787 has a 5 X 8 X 24 long muffler. Im wondering with its length if it might not be too much louder than stock?

Any reputable muffler shop can fit almost any kind of muffler you want on your truck. You don't need a specific system. That three inch pipe is long enough to be cut to fit most any muffler you desire

As mentioned, after my muffler swap, the exhaust didn't sound very good when the mds kicked in. I used my DS Intune to turn it off, and would never turn it back on. I do about 75% city and 25% highway driving, and only lost about .5 mpg on average after disabling my mds, so really not a big deal to me. The truck sounds and runs so much better. Obviously, the difference would be greater if I did more highway cruising, but I'm good with the slight loss.

Thanks for the input. Sounds like turning off the MDS is the way to go if putting on the exhaust. For someone who doesn't own a programmer where would you take your truck to get that done? A dealership or a custom truck/4x4 shop?

No dealership that I know will do that, and the only way to do it would be through a programmer or someone that has software to change factory programming. Good luck finding that person. Just buy a programmer and be done with it
