Default Parking lights stay on

Hi everyone, I need your guys help again. Last week I decided to drive my car all week instead of my truck. When I went back to my buddies house where I keep my spare cars, I went to unlock the truck and nothing happened. I then went to try and start the truck and it was completely dead too. I got the jumper cables out and as soon as I hooked the cables up the parking lights were on. I checked the switch and it was off. I thought maybe they would turn off once I started the truck, nope, I was wrong. I swapped relays and they still stay on. They will turn off if you pull the fuse. The weird thing is the parking lights are on, but the dash lights aren't on like they would normally be if you used the switch. I charged the battery overnight( the battery is original which is late 03) and they still stay on. I even tried swapping batteries thinking maybe it was a old, bad battery causing the problem. I also pulled the headlight switch out and pulled the harness off which then made all the lights come one along with the dash lights. It was even beeping at me letting me know that I let the lights on, which it doesn't now with just those parking lights. Does anybody have any idea whats going on? Thanks for any help.

A while back a member had a bad headlight switch that would keep the parking lights on, he had to cycle the switch a few times and sometimes it would "catch" and turn everything off. He completely opened the switch assembly up and reported that one small section of metal broke off one contact and was getting stuck on another contact (keeping the parking lights on). . .

Wait a minute, did you say that when you disconnected the switch, all the lights came on??? that's a weird one? I'm confused now

Thanks, yeah I remember reading that a while back. I tried cycling the switch on and off. I guess the weird thing is that the parking lights are on, but not the dash lights. If you use the switch, the dash lights come on.

That is a weird symptom... Let's hope it's not a problem with your fuse box ($$$)

Hmmm thanks for the link. I hope its not the fuse box, but it would answer why they stay on. I guess I will have to take it apart and see if I see any corrosion on it. Thanks again.

its a bitch to take appart too. but you have to do it, because other things will start to no work as the Corrosion spreads. once you get inside you can protect the circut board by painting with clear laquer or silicon what ever you choose. meanwhile keep it dry. blow it out with compressed air.dont wash your engine. price a new one its a joke. its cheaper to buy an engine and transmission for a VW bug than what they want for a fuse box.

Ok so today after work I pulled the fuse box out. Now I just have to figure out how to take it apart. It looks like I have to drill the little plastic tabs off inside the fuse box. Once I get it apart I will see if I can get some pics of the damage.

Well I called the dealer today and they want 474 dollars for a new one. Oh and they can have it for me in one day. Does anyone know of anywhere else to buy one cheaper? I looked on a few online dealers and they don't list it.

Maybe you can find them on eBay?? Some guys look around in the vehicle junk yards or "pick and pull" yards... But it's hard to know the condition of the parts your getting there. Did you check RockAuto?
