Rear End (3.92 4x4, 5.7) blown on the 03 Ram! Suggestions Please?
First time poster, long time lurker. You guys seem very helpful.
In November, my rear end gave out on my 03 black beauty. The truck (powertrain incl) has around 217,000 on her. The Hemi is solid as a rock (knock on wood) and the rest of the truck is great. Now, am i crazy or can I not find a used/junkyard rear end anywhere? lower gear ratios all day, 4x2's all day... but not 3.9 4x4. I think the carrier is okay, I need to take it all apart again and take the rear end out and see what I can do. I may be able to get away with ring n pinion and and the other bearings. Everything I am seeing is either used @ $1,000 or rebuilt from a shop at $1,000. Are these pretty much my only options?
Thanks. Can't wait to get her running again.

I've got a few numbers to some guys who might be have a rear end on hand.
With that being said, I had to rebuild mine not too long ago.
Not hard with a few good tools and the Service Manual. With new gears and a mater rebuild kit from Motive I have around $250. I spent around $50 for the inch pound beam torque bar and I guess another $20ish for the materials to make custom tools to adjust the axle preload caps. Everything else I already had. You would need a good impact gun, a good torque wrench, a dial indicator with a magnetic base and various hand tools but mainly sockets.
