Default Fan Clutch

2002 1500 4X4 crew cab 5.9L

Anyone know the part number for the correct fan clutch? I bought one and paid to have it installed but its the wrong one, the nut it too short. The stock nut is longer and puts the fan in the shroud, the replacement keeps the fan outside of the shroud. Checked 3 stores and also the store I had working on the truck (RPM) and all they had was clutches with the short nut.

Part I bought was #922790. (autozone)

Cost $80 for them to just have me drive off with the old part back on the truck.

Thanks for any help.

Rock Auto shows a Four Seasons clutch, P/N 36946 that might be better. BTW, this is too easy to do to pay someone.

ditch the fan clutch and go the electric fan route for that gas hog. You'll be glad you did

Mike, the part at RockAuto looks about the same as what RPM sold. It was a little closer to the shroud but not much more than what I got at Autozone. The nut on the stock clutch is 2.25" long.

I was going to do it myself, but couldn't get it to break free and didn't want to spend the time building a tool to hold the pulley still. I just got done with upper and lower ball joints and inner and outer tie rod ends, I'm just tired of working on the truck what seems to be every weekend. Truck only has 42,000 miles on it, I was hoping that with low miles it wouldn't need so much work.

Rtmtrrdr, I just want it done. The faster and easier thing to do would be replacing the clutch.

Here's a picture of the fan clutch so you can see how long it is.

I've not read a single post discussing this problem.

You don't need to "build a tool" for this. Harbor Freight, NAPA and Amazon have the tool for a reasonable price. Advance or O'Reilly's may even rent one. I got mine (Lisle) from Amazon.

Advance and Auto Zone didn't have a tool to hold the pulley still. I rented the 36MM wrench from AZ. Hitting it with a hammer wouldn't break it free like most do, tried that for a while. End result- Go somewhere that has the tool to get it done.

When I get some free time I'm going to the dealer to see about the fan clutch, hope they have the correct one.
