can anyone tell me what this part does?
I was changing me transmission cooler for a leak and I noticed on the adaptors that connect the cooler line too the transmission
have a little one way valve or orifice in the center of them..
I don’t see how any transmission fluid can get past the orifice.. you can push it down in one direction and it comes right back to its normal position which would be fine on just the intake but would clog the return line..
.. I tried putting it in hot water see if it would open but I did not
Does anyone know the function of this valve/orifice?
I have been have problems for a while with this tranny going into limp mode with code p0871..

Here is a diagram I have used before. I'm not sure what that valve is but maybe you can find out from the diagram.

Here is a good thread explaining that valve and the dangers of it clogging, along with a nice DIY tutorial to eliminate it. After my Wagner severe duty brakes all the way around, this will be my next mod.

No it looks like on my year transmission they moved the check valve from the cooler hose to the transmission case…because there is no check valve on my lines or cooler at all .. I can run air through it no problem either direction and I inspected them as well and there is no valve/spring or ball anyware.. The valve on my transmission.(that fitting in the picture)….. which screws directly in the side of the transmission and the cooler line hose screws into that fitting. I don’t understand how it works.. It’s a one way valve they put on both the in and out lines to the cooler in the same direction. So It can go in no problem,, but how does it get out past the valve? No idea

I finally found out what they are..
they are plastic flaps used while the trans is shipped at the plant to close up the holes to keep out any foreign material..when the trans cooler line is installed they push against the flap and it opens them.
