DIY Mega cab long bed
anyone on here done one? havent found to much info on others doing them except for the speciality guy's and they dont offer much info at all...
I'm going to get started on this in the next week or so, and trying to get everythig ready before i go to cutting
i have the long bed, originally i was going to cut and extend extend just in front of the B&W hitch, and do the 100 other little things that go along with that, but now i scoared a complete frame off of a long bed truck, witch i think will be much more simple and cheaper way to go by splicing the two together at the back of the cab
also have the long bed e-brake cables, the complete rear wiring harness, i know i will need to extend the brake line and drive shaft, and not real sure what i have to do to the fuel tank yet, hopefully it can stay in the same position, but either way that shouldnt be an issue, is there anything else i am missing?
here she is right now

dang, no responce at all?
anyway, im getting going on this build, with the QCLB frame, this would be one very simple swap, however the frame i have was hit in the front and bent all the way back to the rear cab mount, it would have stayed straight about 20'' foward, it would have been a 100% factory look with no frame additions, just my luck....
if you have a straight frame, there is a seam foward of the rear cab mount on the mega that you could split, cut the QCLB frame to length, slide them together, weld it back up and it would be simple, but because of my bent QCLB frame, i had to make some short extentions
once its together, it will be a matter of removing the fuel tank crossmember from my frame and add it to the new one, brake line extention, i have the harness from the QCLB i'm going to use to legthen mine without a 1000 splices, getting the driveline legthened, got the QCLB e-brake cables witch will match right up the MC cables and that is just about it
i also decided to get going on a new rear bumper as my buddy decided my factory one was to straight and backed it into a tree
QCLB frame

new bed

my spacers i built

one instaled on QCLB frame (welding after its all together)

and the bumper in progress

with any luck, in the mornin i'm going to strip it and cut it in half, my goal is to have it all back together tomorrow evening and ready to drive by the end of the weekend (or as soon as i get my driveline back) then just have to get the bed painted
sorry its taken me a bit, its been very busy around here but here is what i have gotten done in the last few days
stripping down

and cut it off... pretty sad site

new frame back on

new bed set on there

and some more bumper work

still have to weld the frame, been taking my time with the alignment because i want it perfect, then its a matter of paint and line-x for the bumper, and reassemble everything

some more updates here
i keep seeing these projects with guys talking about custom e-brake cables or cant hook them up, and hacking up their wiring harness.... DONT DO THAT!!!!
the factory harness will reach! it my not be in the exact factory location but its still safely tucked away and no splices to go bad or cause problems, and a set of factory long bed e-brake cables are a direct fit also
a 20'' drive shaft extention takes care of that issue, but that cost me $340! i think its a bit outragous but what are you going to do when they are the only shop around? the drive shaftlooks a bit cartoonish lol it took two of us to carry it out, and every person that saw it had to say something about it, its long!
for the brake line, i couldnt find a direct fit extention as the line has a bubble...yes bubble, flare with 1/4'' line and a metric fitting, so i got a 20'' double flare extention and cut my line, installed the fittings and double flared my line for that, (there is a very thick coating on the line that must be removed for the fittings to slide over)
and finally the fuel tank, by removing the one cross member from my original rear frame, and attaching it to this one, it gave me back my original mounting locations for the tank straps, and the exhaust hanger, the fuel lines and wiring remain intact with out modification

Lol I know what you mean, I didn't sleep for about a week before doing it, couldn't stop thinking about it and almost backed out of the project when I pulled the bed off, it hurt to cut it really bad, after doing it I had to sit and have a few beers, I was a nervous wreck untill it was back together, on another note, I finally got to drive it this weekend
