Default What a/c recharge kit do i need

I have a 2005 dodge ram 1500 and i hardly use it and it only has 60,000 miles on it. Last year i started getting the mildew odor when using the a/c but only when i first turned it on and now after the winter the a/c isnt cold anymore but it is still cool at least. I want to try one of those a/c recharge cans but there are like 5 different kinds and some come with guages or oil with leak sealer. Which one do i need that is safe to use?

Be careful not to overcharge your system. If you do the head pressures will be too high and then it'll shut off on high head pressure.

Might want to find out why you had refrigerant leak out. No point in putting more in just to lose it.

After you get freon back in the system, take a can of Lysol and with the fan on high, spray it outside the truck by the vents under the wipers to suck it on

If the A/C is not blowing cold I don’t see how it could cause the oder..if it did cause the oder back when it was blowing cold do to condensation then that would have cleared out by now..the smell must be coming from another source of moisture..
I would not add any Freon either until you find the reason it leaked out..especially if your asking what type of Freon to use. you have to know what lbs of pressure to stop at and there is a high side and a low.. as a gas and as a liquid. The system needs a percent of oil mixed in the Freon too..Too much pressure you would do lot more damage than just a small leak..if you do anything yourself do what thundrhawk09 recommended and and do the leak test.
Also always run you’re A/C year round at least once a week just for a short time..to keep the system from drying out..expecially in a very cold environment. I had an a/c sytem last me 25years and half a million miles doing that..without even a recharge.. R12 system before they swiched to 134.. 1981 toyota 4x4

They will change the type of Freon every 20 years.. as DuPont’s patents run out..
