No oil pressure after oil pan replacement
I replaced the oil pan on my 04 5.7 hemi 1500. It has 200K miles. It runs like a top. The only issue with the truck is the stupid windshield wipers having a mind of thier own , which nobody seems to have an answer to fixing. After doing the pan swap I have no oil pressure. Ive been doing alot of reading on the internet and tried some things including making a preassure tank to inject oil into the lower plug hole above the oil filter to prime the oil pump. The pressure will be there for about fifteen seconds or more then drop to nothing no matter how many times Ive tried this method. Am I doing some thing wrong or could it be that the oil pump has let go at the same time I swap an oil pan?
Thanks for your quick reply. The old pan was rusting up and I thought I would get it before it got me. My brother did 90% of the work. After he figured out where all the bolts were to lift the motor up slightly it was a fairly simple job. Then we put on a new oil filter and oiled it up and no pressure. Started researching and watching videos and cant get pressure to stay up. Tried the syphon method of filling the oil pump by pulling the plugs and turning the motor over backwards while syphoning oil into the lower hole, that didnt work , then built a preasure pot out of a paint can and wa able to get about 7ish lbs of pressure to push oil into the bottom hole and after many tries it wouldnt stay pressurized. Im wondering if I have to inject the oil at a higher lbs or is it a coincidence the oil pump went?
I think you might have a damaged oil pick-up line... you'll have to drop the pan and see if there are any cracks on the oil pick-up.... or the seal for it got messed up some how when you put the new pan in.
Think of it this way.. if you put a small hole in a drinking straw and try to drink through it, little to no liquid comes up... same concept is likely the culprit on your truck.

OK , not sure on *****. Now Im thinking I need to pull the pan back off once again to inspect. My brother took it off and inspected the o ring after the first time he put it together with no pressure. So this will be the third time removing. Thanks for the replies.
So what Im gathering is most likely its not the oil pump but something happened during this install. Also it seems that maybe Im priming the pump correctly because you guys havent said otherwise which means its actually a simple prosses to prime the pump and my problem is elsewhere.

I always thought that the pump was self priming....? I haven't worked on a newer hemi so I'd personally go by the service manual...
Also, where are you measuring your oil pressure from? Best place to measure from is usually at the oil pressure sending unit....
