Default Engine tapping noise

2006 Dodge Ram 2500, Hemi 5.7L, just went over 100,000 Never had the spark plugs changed, oil changed faithfully every 3000 miles since Ive had it. Never any major engine issues except the engine light will come on if the transmission fluid is low.

I know its over due for the sparkplugs but all of a sudden there is this awful tapping noise when I first give it gas going up to about 40mph. sounds like its running with no oil in it but the oil is perfectly on the top of the hashmarks and it has sufficient oil in it. It does it when i give it gas two or three times and when I lay off of it, it stops. Then I can give her all she got and no tapping noise. Any suggestions?

Could be the hydraulic lifters in the valve chamber opposite the valve springs. The rocker arm straddles both under the cam

Problem is when they wear they stick and lose the springyness or dont compress properly at all causing a ticking noise.

Other than that could be worn timing chain guides making a rattling noise when you put the engine under load
