Why run 10/30 in an engine that's designed to run 5/20. Just saying. Try a different brand. If your still having an issue, you may need to dig further.

You just don't know if your MDS is working. He could probably use 20W/50 as long as he doesn't need the MDS.

I have a Diablo Predator Tuner, I disabled the MDS.

Tolerance's of the new engines is much closer than the engines of the 70's. Running a heavier weight oil could cause flow issues. I would stick with what the manufactory recommend's JMO.
