Default Burning oil

My '07 Quad cab with the 5.7 has about 81K on her. Last year I started having to add a quart of oil on average about once a month or 1000 miles. Is this considered normal?

A quart every 1000 miles is within allowable amounts......if you're using 5/20, you could try switching to 5/30 or even 10/30 since you're in California. 5/20 is thin to begin with, fine for colder weather but in warm climates it's better to use a thicker oil if you have consumtion issues.

do you use the same brand of motor oil...

some brands oil do evaporate .... wife's PT Cruiser on Penzoil uses 1 quart in 800 miles.. but Mobil 1.. 1 quart in 2000 miles...

but Yes 1 quart in 1000 miles is somewhat normal..
change to 10w30... or 10w40...

I always use old Dino oil unless It's a race car or doesn't get driven much, in which case I change the oil once a year. Anyways, I'd change the grade of oil to 10/30 if it was mine.

You cannot use 10/30, you have an mds engine. Try using a different brand. My 04 burned everything but mobile 1.
