Default Tranny too full causing problem??

2007 1500 4wd hemi. I have a pan gasket leak and added fluid the other day when it was taking longer than normal to go from park to drive and reverse. It would hesitate for a few seconds before shifting. With the leak I assumed it was low and added half a quart without checking, I know should check. Today slipping A lot when starting out, I'm up around 2k rpm and it's barely moving. When I get up to speed it won't shift out of 3rd gear. I was doing 70 mph and the tack was at 3500 rpm. Pressed towhaul and OD off no change at all. Would the tranny being too full cause this? It's about 3/4" above the "full hot" on the stick. It's about 15 below zero, not a good time for this.

Might be time for a trans service. Did you add ATF+4?

Does the fluid smell burnt? Sounds like the pump maybe going.

Strange thing. I drove home from work and everything worked fine. It was like the coldest day in 30 years that morning. I'm thinking the fluid maybe gummed up and clogged something?

Start by removing a quart of fluid. You might have to remove more??? The fluid level at the full line is for a transmission at 180 degrees. I can almost guarantee your not at 180. I towed 5 hrs pulling snowmobiles at 70 mph trans temp did not exceed 170. So if you drive around town for about an hour in NY temps today the trans is probably around 100 degrees(guessing probably close) so the fluid level should be right in the middle of cold and full lines. As you work the truck or outdoor temperatures rise the fluid level will rise accordingly. When the trans hits 180 degrees the fluid should be level with full line. Nice to have scanner to measure temps. If not have to guess. Remember slightly under filled is better than overfilled.
Once you get the fluid level right . I would do a computer reset.
Cross your fingers it works normal.

If you decide on servicing the fluid and filters remember same applies when filling. Trans fluid level is relative to temperature of transmission.

If the fluid gets aerated you bet it will cause problems.

Having some issues again. Sometimes it's fine sometimes it takes 5 seconds to go from park to drive. Check engine light came on for a day then shut off. Today it was slipping, had the rpm's at 2000 just to get it moving. I pulled over after driving a short distance shut it off and on a couple times and it was fine after that. My friend checked the code yesterday and it said gear ratios were off 1,2,3 gear? I'm going to bring it in to a tranny shop.
