Default Rusted out oil pan ???

2003 1500 5.7L 4x4
While I was under my truck trying to solve my O2 mystery, I discovered that my oil pan is so rusted out that oil is actually weeping thru the metal. You could stick your finger right thru the pan. I never heard of such a thing. I have a 1940 farmall with a pan as good as new. I had a 49 Buick and never had that happen. These new vehicles are junk!! If anyone else has had this happen please let me know. I suppose that will be a nightmare removing!!!

I've heard of it happening on the 3rd gen Dakotas as well. Built to fail. Keeps car makers and parts manufacturers in business.

My neighbor is a mechanic and has replaced several oil pans on Hemi Rams. North Eastern Ohio, btw. Not all that uncommon. I've seen plenty of rotted rear diff covers on F-150's too.

How bad a job is it? I am not able to crawl under cars and trucks anymore so I have to rely on my helpers. Is this a backyard job? Will the pan drop straight down? Any steering or suspension linkage in the way? I would just like a heads up as to the difficulty factor before I recruit a helper.

I have an 03 hemi (although 2wd) and I was able to take the oil pan off without jacking the motor up. You will need a scraper of some sort to separate the gasket from the oil pan after removing all the bolts and tranny to engine stiffener. Make sure you remove just the oil pan and not the gasket as the gasket is one piece and is buried under the oil pick up tube. If it's stuck on the pan and you reef on it, you will break something! Oh, and the pan is a puzzle to pull off without lifting the motor; it literally "just" slips out. If you have trouble post back
